The third-generation Range Rover from the 2000s still gets plenty of nods for its clean lines and understated luxury. Now, almost 25 years later, a new Estonian venture called Velvet Motorworks is plotting a limited-run revival, tailored to order for buyers who want something a little more curated and special.

The L322 Range Rover originally debuted in 2001, followed by updates in 2006 and 2010. It was engineered under BMW’s watch, though Ford had already taken control of Land Rover by the time sales began.
More: This Range Rover Classic Is Actually A More Modern 4×4 In Disguise
Mihkel Külaots, founder of Velvet Motorworks, explained why this model was chosen for the company’s first project. “I was a teenager when the L322 first came out, and I vividly remember seeing it in real life for the first time. I was amazed by how powerful and luxurious that boxy machine felt. Now, with the earliest examples over 20 years old, these vehicles deserve a proper tear-down, rebuild, and a bit of extra character – not just a restoration, but a revival of a modern classic.”
A New Take On Old Cues
Now, this isn’t a straightforward restomod where a classic gets dragged into the present with fresh tech, styling, and mechanicals. Well, it is, but not quite. On the outside, Velvet Motorworks has gone for a more retro approach, giving the L322 Range Rover cues from the original model, and then updating them as though it were a restomod in its own right. Confusing? A little. But against the odds, it somehow hangs together.
Exterior tweaks include custom LED lighting with round graphic elements, a reworked grille with vertical slats, and bumpers inspired by classic off-roaders. The combination of larger wheels and a lifted stance completes the look.

The company didn’t share photos of the “handcrafted” interior, but promises it will combine premium materials with modern technology such as Apple CarPlay connectivity and an ADAS suite.

}
});
They place particular focus on the underpinnings, beginning with a complete restoration before moving on to chassis and performance upgrades. The result is intended to preserve an analog driving feel while at the same time improving comfort and handling.
Review: Range Rover Autobiography Feels Like A Stealth Rolls Until You Sit In The Back
All builds will be based on Range Rovers with a supercharged 4.2-liter V8 gasoline engine under the hood. This Jaguar-sourced powertrain delivered 400 hp (298 kW / 406 PS) right from the factory, but its output will be further increased with hardware and software upgrades. Finally, it will be paired with a selectable active exhaust for more drama.
From Renderings To Limited Production

As you may have noticed, Velvet Motorworks’ Range Rover only exists in 3D renderings. These were created by CGI artist Nils Piirma, who has worked with Koenigsegg and Genesis in the past. The company has pledged to have the first prototype ready by mid-2026, with customer deliveries scheduled to commence by the end of next year.
The limited production of the Range Rover L322 restomod will take place in Estonia, and each example will be bespoke. Pricing remains under wraps, but Velvet Motorworks is already accepting applications of interest.
