Skoda doubling its electric SUV lineup in Australia

Skoda Australia has mapped out its launch calendar for the next two years, and that includes a pair of brand-new electric SUVs at both ends of the size spectrum.

The small Epiq and seven-seat Vision 7S will both arrive in 2027, bookending the Elroq and Enyaq and rounding out Skoda’s range of electric SUVs.

“2027 is the year of the Vision 7S for Skoda,” said Kieran Merrigan, Skoda Australia’s head of product and marketing, at the local launch of the Elroq.

“We’ll have the compact Epiq that will come into our market in 2027, which will sit in that small SUV segment, under the medium Elroq and the Vision 7S.

“We’re building a electric vehicle range from small to medium, large, and upper large. We will have a whole range.”

Also known as the Skoda Space, the Vision 7S was first teased back in 2022. At the time, the seven-seat family hauler previewed Skoda’s new ‘modern solid’ design language that’s now being rolled out across the model lineup.

The 4.9m-long SUV was spied testing in Europe back in January, with production expected to kick off next year. However, Australia won’t get the Vision 7S until 2027.

The Vision 7S concept wears the brand’s ‘Tech-Deck Face’, thin exterior lights, sharp body lines and a new-age interior featuring a 14.6-inch touchscreen, 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, an augmented-reality head-up display, rectangular two-spoke steering wheel, as well as an integrated child seat on the second-row centre console.

Though Skoda has yet to detail technical details for the Vision 7S, it’s expected to share the same Volkswagen Group MEB platform underpinnings as the Enyaq, the Volkswagen ID.4 and Cupra Born, among others.
