Ram cancels electric ute, renames Ramcharger plug-in hybrid

Development of the all-electric Ram 1500 REV has been cancelled, leaving Stellantis without a competitor to the Ford F-150 Lightning and Chevrolet Silverado EV.

In a short statement this weekend, Ram confirmed it decided to stop development on full-size 1500 REV (below) “as demand for full-size battery-electric trucks slows in North America”.

Today’s cancellation followed a series of delays for the full-size EV pickup, the last of which occurred in March this year when Ram stated it would no longer develop a long-range version of the 1500 REV with a 229kWh battery pack and up to 805km (500 miles) of range.

At the time, Ram was still committed to launching standard-range model with a 168kWh battery offering 560km of range in 2026, two years later than originally planned.

Unveiled at the 2023 New York motor show, the Ram 1500 REV was envisaged to be a dual-motor all-wheel drive pickup truck with total outputs of 488kW and 841Nm, and capable of springing from 0-60mph (0-97km/h) in 4.4 seconds.

Although the all-electric 1500 REV is no more, the nameplate will be use for the planned extended range electric vehicle (EREV) version of the 1500, which was unveiled in late 2023 and was originally badged as the Ramcharger (below).
