Mazda CX-60 RWD slashes entry price by $5000

The Mazda CX-60 range is growing again, with the introduction of a new naturally aspirated G25 RWD powertrain seeing the entry point to the mid-size SUV range dropping to $47,990 drive-away.

Available in the existing Pure, Evolve and Touring trim levels, the CX-60 ‘G25’ range is powered by Mazda’s “trustworthy” 138kW/250Nm 2.5L Skyactiv-G naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine, driving the rear wheels via the “recently refined” eight-speed automatic transmission.

The removal of two cylinders, 48V mild-hybrid tech and turbocharging has seen the CX-60 G25 models come in around $5000 cheaper than the equivalent ‘G40’ mild-hybrid inline-six turbo-petrol model, with prices starting from $44,240 plus on-road costs – around the same as a mid-spec Mazda CX-5.

While it lacks any form of electrification – be it Mazda’s 48V M Hybrid or plug-in hybrid (PHEV) technologies – the rear-driven CX-60 promises fuel consumption of 7.5L/100km on the combined cycle, just 0.1L/100km more than the more powerful G40e 3.3L inline-six turbo-petrol with 48V MHEV assistance.

Mazda Australia says the new base powertrain is being introduced “as a result of customer demand”, and the Japanese company forecasts the G25 range will “contribute to approximately one-third of CX-60 sales annually”.

To further sweeten the deal, the base CX-60 G25 Pure is being advertised with a sharp introductory offer of $47,990 drive-away (excl. WA), which is $6000 less than the current advertised offer for the G40e Pure (from $53,990 D/A).

Beyond the change in drivetrain, specification of the Pure, Evolve and Touring grades mirrors that of the mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid CX-60 range. Eight exterior paint options will be offered, including three of Mazda’s premium ‘Takuminuri’ finishes – Rhodium White Metallic, Soul Red Crystal Metallic and Machine Grey Metallic.

The Mazda CX-60 G25 RWD range is on sale now, with first customer deliveries arriving next month.
