Well over a year ago, a bizarre and almost heretical six-wheeled Ferrari Testarossa appeared online and managed to turn just about every head possible. The strange, stretched creation sparked curiosity, disbelief, and a lot of questions.

Now, after months of radio silence, we’re finally hearing official details about what it is, how it came to exist, and why its journey has been anything but smooth.

As it turns out, the story behind this six-wheeled Ferrari has been marked by drama, some missed deadlines, and creative clashes. Progress has been slow, and judging by how things have unfolded, perhaps the universe is gently hinting that some ideas are best left unfinished.

What Exactly Is Going On Here?

In early 2024, the folks over at Danton Art Kustoms and Frechy Export LLC built a six-wheeled AM General Humvee that sent power to just two of its wheels. That power came from a Dodge Hellcat Hemi V8.

On paper and in photos, it looked great. The two custom shops sold the car to Richard Rawlings and his company Gas Monkey Garage. Then, the creation was sold at Barrett-Jackson for $750,000.

That sale was supposed to mark the beginning of a new partnership. Danton and Rawlings reportedly agreed that if the Humvee sold well, Gas Monkey Garage would fund their next ambitious build. That project turned into a six-wheeled Ferrari Testarossa.

Nobody had seen or heard about it for quite some time. Then, about three weeks ago, an Instagram post featuring Rawlings and the car surfaced, and Alex Danton appeared in the comments with a few words that ignited fresh controversy.

Here’s what he wrote about Rawlings and Gas Monkey Garage:

“It’s so easy to steal and take credit for other people’s work. karma is very important 👏. Yes liar and thief I did it they didn’t touch a nut.”

“He didn’t even pay me more than 10 percent of my work after doing it alone and making me sign contracts to silence. He uses their fiscal power to crush people. I prefer to work to make my art discovered than to pay lawyers for nothing”.

According to Rawlings, though, the Ferrari needed far more work than anyone realized. Fabrication, paint, and fitment allegedly all fell short of expectations, and the team had to revisit almost every part of the build. That brings things to the current state of affairs.

How Close Is It to Completion?

At this stage, Rawlings and the team are closer than ever to having it done, and despite that, the explicitly says that in its current form it’s only “sort of okay.”

To get it to where he and the team want it to be, it’s going to be a “S@#t ton of work,” he says. That’s right, after everything, it’s still nowhere near finished. As for Danton, he responded to someone asking about where the car is now by saying, “destroy.”

Here’s the crazy thing. We actually saw and covered this car as it moved to the GMG location back in September. At the time, it looked like progress was being made, but hindsight shows the build was already in trouble.

Looking back now, and with the new insights from Rawlings, it’s clear to see that the abomination would probably beg to be put out of its misery if it could.
