A new Japanese TV commercial gives our clearest look yet at the upcoming GR GT – the spiritual successor to the Lexus LFA

- A new teaser shows the Toyota GR GT on the track alongside the 2000GT and Lexus LFA.
- The design mirrors the 2022 GR GT3 concept with LFA-inspired cues and aggressive aero.
- The supercar will debut on December 5, and is expected to come fitted with a hybrid V8.
Toyota Gazoo Racing is gearing up for the debut of its first-ever supercar on December 5, serving as a spiritual successor of the Lexus LFA. Japanese TV viewers were treated with a revealing teaser, showing the V8-powered performance flagship alongside its predecessors.
Surprisingly, the short clip hasn’t been shared on Toyota GR’s official media channels, instead appearing only on local TV for now. It depicts a Toyota 2000GT being overtaken by the Lexus LFA and the new supercar on an oval track. The same trio appeared in a large sign at the Fuji Speedway last October under the motto “The Soul Lives On.”

The latest teaser, shared by Lexus News on Instagram, shows an exterior design consistent with earlier spy shots. The license plate hints that the supercar will be called the Toyota GR GT, a slightly simplified evolution of the GR GT3 concept from 2022.
The model has styling references to the Lexus LFA, including the hood vents and the high-mounted side intakes. It sports aggressive LED headlights reminiscent of the Toyota GR86 coupe, a slim grille, large bumper intakes, and a long, sculpted hood.

The rear end features full-width LED taillights tucked into oversized outlets similar to the concept. We can’t see the exhaust pipes, but spy shots suggest they will be integrated into the diffuser on the road car (the race version uses side-exit exhausts). Also visible are the coupe-style rear glass, the wide shoulders, and an integrated ducktail spoiler. The latter will be paired with a fixed wing on the racecar.

Toyota gave us a glimpse of the supercar’s interior at the Goodwood Festival of Speed last June, revealing a striking combination of red leather and Alcantara upholstery with aluminum accents. The cabin sports two heavily bolstered carbon-fiber seats and a modern center console with a large touchscreen and a row of physical buttons or switches.
As for the engine, it has been officially confirmed that the new GR GT will have a new twin-turbo V8 under the hood. The mill might not sound as wild as the naturally-aspirated V10 of the Lexus LFA, but it is expected to be part of a powerful self-charging hybrid setup. It has been reported that the new V8 could generate over 800 horsepower, sharing its basic architecture with Toyota’s upcoming turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine.
We will learn everything about the Toyota GR GT on Friday, December 5. The automaker hasn’t shared any details about availability, but judging from a recent teaser there is a good chance it will be sold in North America. The supercar will serve as the flagship of the performance lineup, positioned above the GR Yaris, GR Corolla, GR86, GR Supra, and the upcoming GR Celica.
