Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and Eclipse Cross in their final days

Australians only have a limited time to get their hands on a new Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross or Pajero Sport.

At the launch of the new ASX, Mitsubishi Australia told media the company was expecting current stock of the small SUV and large off-road SUV to be exhausted within months.

“Eclipse Cross should run out, and Pajero Sport should run out by the end of the year,” Tim Clarke, Product Strategy Manager, told the media conference.

Mitsubishi was forced to axe the two models following the introduction of Australian Design Rule (ADR) 98/00 on March 1, 2025, which required new cars to meet updated requirements for autonomous emergency braking systems (AEB).

It’s understood Mitsubishi imported and stockpiled brand-new Eclipse Cross and Pajero Sport vehicles prior to the March 1 cut-off.

“Given the position of [the previous] ASX, Eclipse Cross and Pajero Sport in their current life cycles, investment towards the re-engineering of these vehicles to incorporate the new ADRs was not commercially feasible,” said Mitsubishi Australia’s former CEO, Shaun Westcott, back in January 2025.

“As a result, Australian production of these vehicles has ended.”
