Ram Is Working On A Rugged Midsize Truck You Won’t Be Able To Buy

  • Stellantis will soon launch a Ram-branded midsize pickup in South America with tough styling.
  • It will likely share the ladder-frame chassis and turbodiesel engine with Fiat and Peugeot pickups.
  • The new model will be positioned above the Rampage and will be manufactured in Argentina.

Ram has shared the first teaser of a new pickup designed for South America, revealing rugged styling cues. The midsize truck will be mechanically related to the Fiat Titano and Peugeot Landtrek, riding on ladder-frame underpinnings of Chinese origin with a turbodiesel engine under the hood.

adpushup.que.push(function() {

} else {

}
});

The teaser reveals the unique styling features of the new Ram that might revive the Dakota nameplate. Highlights include the full-width LED headlights flanking the large grille, and the amber lights on the sculpted hood. We can also see a Ram Turbo emblem and Nightfall lettering on the tailgate indicating this is a special edition.

The bodywork appears to be covered in a camouflage-style wrap. The beadlock alloy wheels shod in grippy mud-terrain tires and the sports bar with extra LEDs contribute to an adventurous stance.

The new model will most likely ride on a ladder-frame chassis already found in the Chinese Kaicene F70 and Changan Lantazhe and the South American Fiat Titano and Peugeot Landtrek. It is expected to have as similar footprint to the 5,331 mm (209.9 inches) long Fiat, positioning it above the 5,028 mm (198 inches) long Ram Rampage which rides on a unibody architecture. Rivals in the midsize pickup segment include the Toyota Hilux, the Ford Ranger, and the VW Amarok.

Under the hood we expected to find the 2.2-liter turbodiesel engine which is good for 197 hp (200 PS) and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque. The same engine was added to the Fiat Titano lineup earlier this year. Power will be transmitted to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox and a proper 4WD system.

Besides the unique styling, the Ram version will be differentiated from its Fiat and Peugeot siblings by offering a more premium look and features inside the cabin.

The new model will be manufactured at Stellantis‘ Cordoba Assembly Plant in Argentina. An official announcement is slated for today, August 13. We will update this story accordingly when the press release comes out.

While this midsize pickup will be likely limited to South American markets, Ram is reportedly working on another similarly-sized model for North America. This one is rumored to enter production in 2027, at the company’s Belvidere Assembly Plant in Illinois.
